We would like to announce you that we've selected five juries (3 Japanese, 2 Non-Japanese) for
the International Design Competition Osaka 2005 (Theme: ENERGY). They'll be responsible for the
preliminary screening and final review for the competition.
At the preliminary screening, four additional technical advisors who can give juries energy-related
technological advice will join in the screening process.
The followings are the profiles of juries:
| =Manabu Akaike (Science and Technology Journalist) Born in 1958, Graduated from University of Tsukuda (biology department) He covers mainly manufacture and science technology areas, and writes many books and essays about them. Also, he's proposing to create a society focused on people and a recycling society. Currently, he's a head of the Universal Design Intelligence Inc. (Minato ward, Tokyo) His books include "Meaning of Knowing Toyota" and Ark of Manufacturing" and etc. |

| =Toshiro Ikegami (Architect) Born in 1948. Graduated from School of Engineering of Osaka University 1981: Established the Ikegami Architectural Office 1983: Received the Minister of International Trade and Industry Award at the International Design Competition (1st competition) 1986: Reorganized the office as "Urban Gauss" and now serves as the president. As an architect, he's been involved in wide range of design activities such as urban planning, landscape design, interior design and product design, placing architecture as its core. 1992-2001: Served as a jury for the "G-mark Award" 1993: Became assistant professor of Kyoto City University of Arts 1999: Assumed professor of Environmental Design Research Department 2001: Promoted to establish the Eco Design Network (NPO), and now serves as the vice chairman |

| =Chiaki Murata (Product Designer) Born in 1959, Graduated from School of Engineering of Osaka City University 1982-86: Worked for Sanyo Electric Design Center 1986: Established the "Hers Experimental Design Laboratory" 1991 : Incorporated the business and assumed the office 2000 - : Has been serving as an advisor for the "Osaka Prefectural Support Center for SMEs" 2002 -: Has been serving as a jury for the "G-mark Award" He's been involved in wide area of design activities such as product, CI, Interface design. Also, a candle-shaped lighting fixture used LED technology, which he released in 2005, is winning attention in Italy and other countries. |

| =Chris Conley (Product Designer) Mr. Conley holds a Master of Science of Design degree from ID and an engineering degree from the Illinois Institute of Technology. Following the position as Director of Global Design Planning for Motorola, he's become co-founder and president of his own research and development consulting firm (Design Research Associates). He has worked for clients including Motorola and Brunswick helping them create a productive link between research and design that results in successful products with unique user-centered features, often resulting in new intellectual property in the form of utility and design patents. In 1992, he's become an Associate Professor and head of the Human-Centered Product Design track at the Institute of Design., and is currently teaching product design, planning, and user-centered methods. He is routinely rated as an outstanding instructor for his ability to relate advanced theories to professional practice. He's experienced various rolls such as Board of the Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA), jury for the Industrial Design Excellence Awards (IDEA) and President of the American Center for Design (ACD). |
